We are a group of friends, fond of nature, who have been lucky discovering this heaven, we really hope to meet other people in love with nature, country, picturesque, pure air, silence like us, and with all the things that are hard to find in the actual society.
This field, as shown in the map, is situated in the south center of the province of La Rioja, and its surface is about 62.500 hectares (62.5 km²).
The field lies at 1.300 meters of height, but you can count on a very particular microclimate, (comparable to Sicily’s one), being placed within the mountainous chain of Vilgo and Paganzo. Its annual rain regimen is more than the double of the one in the city of La Rioja with possible winter snowfalls, this increases the dampness of the field. In winter there are enough hours of cold to produce, for example, delicious apples. Being a windy area with relatively cold winters the illnesses of the cultivations are easily checkable, and having a lot of sunny hours in the warm season, the fertility of the plants is excellent.
In the whole west part it has of important sources, of exclusive property and for use of the field, rising in it and in some cases they cross it from west to the east. There are also sources rising in the central area of the field, that we are using drop by drop for irrigation because of a 14 meters difference of level. This allows all the types of irrigation without necessity of pumps or other elements transferring the water elsewhere where the difference of level is not like that. In the field you can find also sources of water with over 200 meters slopes. All the waters are fresh.
The farmings made till now have been realized as pilot growings in order to determine with more certainty the available possibilities; tomatoes of different varieties and with different methods of irrigation have been planted. All of them have produced more than satisfying results as you can see in some photos of this page.
Medical grass and other feed for livestock has been sowed: the photos illustrate the insuperable quality of the crop (even 8/9 in a year). There are different varieties of vine in the field and we are preparing others, the adaptation of this crop to such soils is recognized and if it is kept in mind that we have water and sun in abundance, it is easy to understand the importance of this commercial possibility.
The olive is another more than interesting possibility offered to hold in account, for this type of crop there are already prepared studies of realization.
Walnut-trees and other similar fruit are ideal for this kind of climate, we have also realized studies in this direction.
We have hundred-year-old fig trees and we are trying to plant others more since it is a plant that grows very well and it doesn't need any type of treatment.
In this field there is a noteworthy quantity of spontaneous food for the livestock, that grows in spontaneous form, this aliment is a good deputy of the medical grass with a lot more fiber than in other areas where is cultivated!
Three pigs, two females and a male have been bred to see how they responded to the difference of climate we have, they have been fed in the most natural way and only in winter we have suspended their stuffing.
We are raising turkeys, hens, rabbits, goats and such breeding did absolutely not show any kind of problem, all the animals are kept in closed places with corrals and with the respective sheds.
Vegetables like lettuce, chicory, carrot...etc grow all year round and very well, the watermelon, the melon and similar they excellently grow but in a specific period.
All the fruit as cherries, peaches, apricots…etc. are excellent. We have pears of two types, that are all right.
The varieties of landscapes you can find in this spot are ideal for all the types of tourism, both of adventure as of relax. Looking at the photos it is not hard to see the potential of the field as tourist attraction.
Natural Flora: endless variety of cactus, so many varieties of mint, of sages, etc etc (see the Spanish version for the complete list). Besides this field is the epicentre of a species, (true living fossil) commonly called Chica Riojana, this plant grows of 0,2 mms. a year, they are ultracentenarian plants, whose wood has the same hardness of the ebony.
Autochthonous Fauna: foxes, untamed donkeys, nandu, guanachi, condors, hares, patagonian hare or mara mara, turtles, lizards, salamanders, iguanas, a quantity and variety of sparrows (blackbirds, turtle doves, parrots, hummingbird etc etc.).
Mining Possibilities: baryte, mines under the opened sky of clay, plushy, an enormous varieties of colors of granites, iron etc. etc. There are studies concerning important mining companies.
Breeding: its development is possible on almost all the surface of the proprietorship, sees the importance of the natural pasture
Improvements and Equipment: barn, house, workshop, workers' residence, storehouse, hen-pens, fences for rabbits, pigs, goats, two cisterns and a perforation from which pure mineral water rises, four caravans, three ploughs, three sowing machines, a hay cutter, a caterpillar 933 shovel.
